It's not as hard as you may think if you watch it. Yes, that is my desk, in my room, with my wonderful stuff.
Yes, there are 702 cranes to date.
You will need a square piece of paper.
Please follow the video as it has step to step instructions with specific guidance.
1.) Fold the paper diagonally in half. Crease.
2.) Unfold the paper and fold it diagonally in half the other way. Crease.
3.) Unfold the paper and fold it in half (not diagonally). Crease.
4.) Unfold the paper and fold it in half the other way. Crease.
5.) Unfold the paper and fold half of a diagonal fold inwards (non-colored), then layer on top of it flaps and make a square. (Watch the video.)
6.) Do step 5 for the other side. The colored side should be on the outside and you should not be able to see the uncolored side.
7.) With the open side down, fold a flap to the middle crease. Do the same to the other side.
8.) Flip and repeat step 7.
9.) Fold the top triangle down and unfold.
10.) Unfold the folds you made and open the flap, bringing the top up and flattening, folding, and creasing it; the colors will still be on the outside.
11.) Flip and repeat steps 9 and 10.
12.) With the open "legs" downwards, fold the flaps to the middle crease on both sides and on both sides, if that makes sense.
13.) Open the side flaps and inside-out fold the "legs" up on both sides, one at a time.
14.) Chose one of the sides to make a head on and inside-out fold it.
15.) Fold down the wings on each side; these will only fold to a certain point.
16.) Take the wings close to the body and pull gently to expand the body to stand on its own.
For a flapping crane, skip 16. To make it flap hold the leg part by the head near to the body and the base of the tail; pull up and out. It's not that hard but people don't get it anyways.
I didn't explain it too well in words 'cause I did the video. I'm very sorry, but it took a long while.
