In the twenty-first century there has been a lot of controversy over what is commonly known as "gay rights," as well as many court cases, etc. that have not simply been limited to the United States. Other countries have other views based on cultural and moral principles. For example, Russia does not even teach their children that there is such a thing as homosexuality.
Same sex marriages have been legalized in many places in the U.S., and there is a growing number of same sex couples in the world.
My personal beliefs concerning this conflict stem from my religious upbringing in the Mormon church. We believe that marriage between a man and woman is ordained of God, and that they can become eternal companions if they go through sacred sealing ordinances. God made genders distinct so that they could, together, use the powers of procreation, or bringing life into this world. Our church would be more for heterosexuality than homo, but we also believe that everyone was given free agency, or the ability to make choices for themselves. The Church has planned not to push their beliefs on others but to retain their beliefs firmly for themselves.
